Ricky Ponting is an ‘average captain’: Harbhajan Singh

RAJKOT: Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh claims that Ricky Ponting is an “average captain” after his bowling decisions in the final Test helped India record a 2-0 series victory over Australia.

The bad blood between the pair stretches back over a decade when the then teenage off-spinner gave Ponting a vitriolic send off after taking his wicket for the first time.

Ponting reciprocated in kind and the pair were both fined for the incident.

Harbhajan is a divisive figure in world cricket, and the enmity between him and the Australians was exacerbated in January when India came close to pulling out of their tour there following accusations of racist comments from the Indian when he clashed with Andrew Symonds. “Ponting used to have great players like (Adam) Gilchrist, (Shane) Warne and (Glenn) McGrath,” said Harbhajan. “Now that they are gone, we can see that he is not an inspirational leader.
