Sachin Tendulkar's record feat raises spirits in IndiaMOHALI: Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most Test runs scored was ecstatically cheered by millions of his countrymen depressed by terrorist attacks, the unrelenting financial crisis and crippling inflation.
"Tendulkar is king; the best ever," exulted building contractor Subhash Gupta, glued to his television just to see the 'Little Master' overtake Brian Lara's aggregate of 11,953 on the first day of the second Test against Australia at Mohali, 150 miles north of New Delhi.
Housewife Shakuntla Devi, 53, who rarely watches cricket, said: "He is truly unbeatable and has made India proud at a time when everything is going badly wrong for us."
